Serving Size:

  • Will make about 3 6” cake pans or 2 8”.

Measurements:

  • 113g salted butter

  • 300g sugar

  • 2 eggs

  • 2 tsp vanilla

  • red food coloring

  • 15g cocoa powder

  • 300g all-purpose flour

  • 1 tsp baking soda

  • 240 ml/g buttermilk

  • 1 tbsp white vinegar

Step By Step

  • Step 1

    • Preheat oven to 350°F.

  • Step 2

    • In a stand mixer (using paddle attachment) or in a bowl (using a whisk to mix) add in your salted butter and granulated sugar, and cream together on medium speed.

  • Step 3

    • In a separate bowl, add your flour, cocoa powder, and baking soda together.

  • Step 4

    • Once your butter and sugar are creamed together, add in one egg at a time and mix on low speed until incorporated.

  • Step 5

    • Once you have added all your eggs, add your vanilla extract and red food coloring.

  • Step 6

    • Add in your buttermilk and dry ingredients to the butter, sugar, and eggs mixture a little at a time, switching back and forth until you have added it all.

  • Step 7

    • Lastly add your white vinegar.

  • Step 8

    • Butter your pans, then evenly distribute the batter into your pans and bake for 20-35 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean. (don’t go off of the time because depending on pan size and oven, the cooking time will vary).
