These Valentine’s sugar cookies are basically our classic frosting sugar cookies dressed up for love season! Same soft, buttery cookie you already know and love, just swapped with festive Valentines sprinkles for a fun, pink and red twist. They’re thick, fluffy, and topped with the creamiest frosting, perfect for sharing, gifting, or keeping all to yourself. Whether you’re baking for a Valentines party, a Galantines night, or just because you love a good sprinkle moment, these cookies make everything feel a little sweeter!

Choose Your Swirl

One of the best things about these Valentine sugar cookies is how easy they are to make your own. You can switch up the frosting color, sprinkle mix, or add any cute decorations your family loves to match the seasons, think hearts, cupids, or classic red and pink! These cookies remind us a lot of our classic frosted sugar cookies, just with a Valentine twist. Decorating them is a fun way to get family and friends involved, use up leftover sprinkles form your pantry, and turn cookie time into a festive activity everyone will enjoy!

Even if Valentines Day isn’t really your thing, these cookies might just change your mind. There’s something about a soft, frosted sugar cookie with way too many sprinkles that makes the whole holiday feel less serious and a lot more fun! No pressure, no sappy stuff, just a really good cookie that happens to be festive. Think of them as an excuse to bake, decorate, and enjoy something sweet, whether you’re celebrating love, friendships, or just your love for dessert!

Why I Measure in Grams (and You Might Want To, Too)

If you’ve ever made the same recipe twice and gotten two totally different results, the measuring method is often the reason.

Professional bakeries almost always measure by weight, not volume. Measuring cups leave room for inconsistency—especially with ingredients that pack differently depending on how you scoop or pour them. A scale removes all of that guesswork.

One of the biggest offenders is sugar. Different sugars (and even the same sugar measured by different people) can vary wildly in volume, but 100 grams is always 100 grams. Measuring by weight gives you repeatable, bakery-consistent results and cuts down on extra dishes at the same time.

A food scale is one of the best (and most affordable) investments you can make for your kitchen if you love baking and want your recipes to turn out exactly the same every time.

Ingredients To Prepare

Before baking, take a few minutes to gather the ingredients below and to ensure that they are soft, chewy, and perfectly on theme!

  • Butter (salted or unsalted)
  • Granulated Sugar
  • Egg
  • Vanilla Extract
  • All-Purpose Flour
  • Baking Soda
  • Baking Powder
  • Sprinkles
  • Powdered Sugar

Once you have all of the ingredients ready to go, you’re officially set up for Valentine Sugar Cookie success. I always recommend measuring everything out ahead of time so the process is smoother, and you can focus on making the best cookies possible!

Ingredients

Cookie Dough
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 1/3 cup white granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 2 1/4 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup Valentine sprinkles
Frosting
  • 1 cup butter
  • 3 cup powdered sugar
  • 3 tbsp heavy cream or milk
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Topping
  • sprinkles

Method

Step 1 – Prep the Oven & Butter
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (convection). Beat room-temperature butter in a stand mixer or by hand for 3–5 minutes, until the butter turns slightly off-white and creamy.
Step 2 – Add Sugar
  1. Add granulated sugar and beat with the butter until light and fluffy, about 2 minutes.
Step 3 – Mix in Egg & Vanilla
  1. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until fully combined and smooth.
Step 4 – Form the Dough
  1. Add flour, baking soda, baking powder, and Valentine sprinkles. Gently fold until a soft cookie dough forms.
Step 5 – Bake a Test Cookie
  1. Using a 1/3 cup scoop (or desired size), place a single dough ball on a baking tray. Bake this test cookie first to check spread and oven temperature, adjusting if needed.
Step 6 – Bake the Cookies
  1. Place the remaining dough balls on the tray, evenly spaced. Flatten slightly if desired. Bake for 12–14 minutes (for 1/3 cup scoops).
Step 7 – Shape & Cool
  1. For perfectly round cookies, swirl a circular cup or bowl around each cookie while still warm. Let cookies rest on the tray for about 10 minutes before transferring.
Step 8 – Make the Frosting
  1. Beat butter until smooth and slightly off-white. Add powdered sugar, heavy cream, and vanilla extract. Whip until fluffy and smooth.
Step 9 – Frost & Decorate
  1. Frost cooled cookies and finish with Valentine sprinkles. Store in the fridge for up to 10 days or at room temperature for up to one week.
