Hot Chocolate Mug Cake

This single serve hot cocoa mug cake is basically a warm hug in dessert form. Rich, chocolatey, and topped with melty marshmallows, it’s what happens when your favorite mug of hot cocoa turns into a cozy cake you can eat with a spoon. Perfect for late night cravings, snowy afternoons, or when you want something sweet right now without committing to a whole batch, just mix, microwave, and enjoy the ultimate comfort dessert!

Little Trick for Big Flavor
The key to the perfect thot cocoa mug cake is using hot cocoa mix instead of just cocoa powder. It adds sweetness, creaminess, and that nostalgic flavor that makes this taste like a true cup of hot chocolate in cake form. Keep an eye on tit while microwaving, since every microwave is different, and stop as soon as the top looks set but still soft for the fudgiest texture. Want to switch it up? You can add a few chocolate chips before microwaving, or a pinch of cinnamon or espresso powder to deepen the flavor. This little mug cake is super easy to customize, so don’t be afraid to make it your own!

As someone whose thing has always been cakes (while my sister is firmly on team cookies), I totally get the struggle. I love decorating, layering, and making everything cute, but sometimes I do not want to commit to the full cake process. This little mug cake is my favorite shortcut for those moments when you want a cake now, without the hours of mixing, baking, cooling, and frosting. It’s proof that you can still get that cozy, cake from scratch feeling gin minutes, especially if you’re someone who truly understands just how long a real cake usually takes.

Why I Measure in Grams (and You Might Want To, Too)
If youโve ever made the same recipe twice and gotten two totally different results, the measuring method is often the reason.
Professional bakeries almost always measure by weight, not volume. Measuring cups leave room for inconsistencyโespecially with ingredients that pack differently depending on how you scoop or pour them. A scale removes all of that guesswork.
One of the biggest offenders is sugar. Different sugars (and even the same sugar measured by different people) can vary wildly in volume, but 100 grams is always 100 grams. Measuring by weight gives you repeatable, bakery-consistent results and cuts down on extra dishes at the same time.
A food scale is one of the best (and most affordable) investments you can make for your kitchen if you love baking and want your recipes to turn out exactly the same every time.
