Cacao Mushroom Coffee

Health cacao mushroom coffee has officially become my sister and my latest hyper fixation. It started as a cozy little morning ritual and somehow evolved into multiple times a day situation (don’t worry, we strategically retire the coffee to water after round one to avoid caffeine overload)! There’s just something about it, rich, comforting, perfectly sweet but still wholesome, it feels like a treat and productivity hack at the same time. It’s refreshing, just sweet enough, makes you feel genuinely good from the inside out, and has easily become my favorite part of the daily routine.ย

๐Ÿฏโ˜•๏ธ here is everything I useddd โ€” double shot espresso, cocao powder, plant protein powder, collagen powder, mushroom powder, cinnamon, pinch of Celtic salt, & raw organic honey (I sometimes sneak more things in but this is what I generally use!)

Endlessly Customizable

One of the best parts about it is how versatile it is. You can tweak it depending on your mood, the flavor profile you are craving, or even the kind of protein powder you’re using that week. You can make it hot and cozy or pour it over ice for something refreshing and smooth. Personally, I am almost always a hot coffee person, but this iced? It’s on a whole other level, creamy, refreshing, and somehow even more satisfying. And if you’re in a matcha over coffee phase, you can easily swap it in, and it works just as beautifully. It’s one of those drinks that adapts to whatever mood you’re in, which makes it feel new and exciting every single time.

If you’re trying to lean more into whole foods and healthier options but still love a good, sweet treat, this is such an easy win. It tastes delicious and perfectly sweet, but it’s naturally nourishing and leaves you feeling genuinely good instead of sluggish. The addition of mushroom blend and cacao brings so many wellness benefits, and you can honestly feel the difference. It’s the kind of drink that feels supportive, not just satisfying. My sister (who is minoring in medicine, literature, and culture) is always telling me about herbal remedies and the benefits of teas and plant-based ingredients. I’ll admit, I’m usually a bit skeptical at first, but I’ve never been let down. Whether I’m feeling run down or already at my best, I always notice I feel better, more balanced, more energize, and just overall good. And if you’re just getting started with healthier habits, this is such a great place to begin because its genuinely taste amazing and feels just like a treat!

Why I Measure in Grams (and You Might Want To, Too)

If youโ€™ve ever made the same recipe twice and gotten two totally different results, the measuring method is often the reason.

Professional bakeries almost always measure by weight, not volume. Measuring cups leave room for inconsistencyโ€”especially with ingredients that pack differently depending on how you scoop or pour them. A scale removes all of that guesswork.

One of the biggest offenders is sugar. Different sugars (and even the same sugar measured by different people) can vary wildly in volume, but 100 grams is always 100 grams. Measuring by weight gives you repeatable, bakery-consistent results and cuts down on extra dishes at the same time.

A food scale is one of the best (and most affordable) investments you can make for your kitchen if you love baking and want your recipes to turn out exactly the same every time.

Cocao Mushroom Coffee

Author: Livia & Maya Benson
211kcal

Ingredients

  • 1 cup cold brew or water/milk
  • 2 tbsp cacao powder
  • 1 scoop protein powder ~1/4 cup
  • 1 tsp mushroom powder
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • pinch salt
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup or honey/date syrup

Method

Step 1: Make the Coffee Base
  1. Pour 1 cup cold brew into a blender cup or large mug.
  2. If you prefer less caffeine, you can use milk or water instead. Starting with the liquid first helps everything blend smoothly.
Step 2: Add the Chocolate + Spice
  1. Add 2 tbsp cacao powder, 1 tsp cinnamon, and a pinch of Celtic salt.
  2. The salt enhances the chocolate flavor, and the cinnamon adds warmth that makes it taste like a cozy mocha.
Step 3: Add the Protein + Mushroom Powder
  1. Add 1 scoop protein powder and 1โ€“2 tsp mushroom powder.
  2. Start with 1 teaspoon if youโ€™re new to mushroom powder and increase to taste.
Step 4: Sweeten It
  1. Add 1 tbsp maple syrup (or honey/date syrup).
  2. You can always adjust the sweetness after blending.
Step 5: Blend or Froth Until Creamy
  1. Blend for 15โ€“30 seconds until smooth and creamy.
  2. If using a milk frother, froth for 30โ€“45 seconds. Make sure no cacao clumps remain.
Step 6: Taste + Customize
  1. Give it a quick taste and adjust if needed.
  2. Add more cacao for deeper chocolate flavor, more sweetener if you prefer it sweeter, or a splash of milk if itโ€™s too thick. This is also where you can mix in ashwagandha or other herbal extracts.
Step 7: Serve + Enjoy
  1. Pour over ice for an iced version, or gently warm it on the stovetop (do not boil) for a cozy hot drink. Froth once more before serving for extra creaminess.
