Peanut Butter Chocolate Banana Smoothie

Growing up on fruit and vegetable smoothies, we honestly never really loved or craved them. They were always one of those “healthy” things we drank because we knew they were good for us, not because we were excited about them. But this smoothie completely changed that. A rich, sweet cacao smoothie is so much more up my alley, and somehow Livia always manages to turn her slightly questionable sounding concoctions into something genuinely amazing. Even when it comes to flavors I normally wouldn’t choose for myself, like matcha or banana, I’m somehow always obsessed by the first sip. The Banana in this smoothie creates the perfect creamy texture without being overpowering at all, and it’s honestly one of the first smoothies I’ve ever truly craved. It tastes like a chocolate treat while still being packed with wholesome ingredients that leave you feeling energized, satisfied, and genuinely good from the inside out!

Endlessly Customizable

One of the best parts about this recipe is how endlessly customizable it is. Swap the peanut butter for almond, cashew, or sunflower butter for a different twist. You can even take out nut butter and add more cacao powder for a more chocolatey flavor, making it easy to create a new version depending on what you’re craving!

Me and Livia’s drink fixations truly never end, but somehow, they also never disappoint. I’ve learned to always give Livia the benefit of the doubt when she comes up with a flavor combo, and once again, she was right. I’m usually not even a huge fan of banana flavored recipes, but this one is so balance that the banana isn’t overpowering at all. It blends perfectly with the creamy nut butter and cacao flavors to create something cozy, rich, and surprisingly addictive!

Why I Measure in Grams (and You Might Want To, Too)

If youโ€™ve ever made the same recipe twice and gotten two totally different results, the measuring method is often the reason.

Professional bakeries almost always measure by weight, not volume. Measuring cups leave room for inconsistencyโ€”especially with ingredients that pack differently depending on how you scoop or pour them. A scale removes all of that guesswork.

One of the biggest offenders is sugar. Different sugars (and even the same sugar measured by different people) can vary wildly in volume, but 100 grams is always 100 grams. Measuring by weight gives you repeatable, bakery-consistent results and cuts down on extra dishes at the same time.

A food scale is one of the best (and most affordable) investments you can make for your kitchen if you love baking and want your recipes to turn out exactly the same every time.

Ingredients To Prepare

Before blending, take a few minutes to gather the ingredients below and to ensure that it is sweet, delicious, and perfectly smooth!

  • Banana
  • Ice
  • Water
  • Protein Powder
  • Peanut Butter
  • Maple Syrup (or Honey / Date Syrup)
  • Cinnamon
  • Vanilla Extract
  • Cacao Powder

Once you have all of the ingredients ready to go, you’re officially set up for peanut butter chocolate banana smoothie success. I always recommend measuring everything out ahead of time so the process is smoother, and you can focus on making the best drink possible!

Ingredients

  • 1 banana frozen
  • 1 cup ice
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 scoop protein powder
  • 2 tbsp cocao powder
  • 1 tbsp peanut butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
  • 1 tsp cinnamon (optional but makes it SO GOOD),
  • pinch of salt

Method

Step 1: Add the Base Ingredients
  1. Add 1 banana, ice, water, protein powder, cacao powder, peanut butter, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt to a blender.
  2. Starting with the liquid first helps everything blend more smoothly.
Step 2: Blend Until Smooth + Creamy
  1. Blend for about 30โ€“60 seconds until completely smooth and creamy.
  2. Make sure the peanut butter and cacao are fully combined with no clumps remaining.
Step 3: Adjust the Consistency
  1. Give it a quick taste and check the texture.
  2. Add more water if you prefer a thinner smoothie, or start with less liquid for a thicker, creamier consistency. You can also add extra ice to make it extra frosty.
Step 4: Customize the Flavor
  1. Adjust anything to your liking.
  2. Add more cacao for a richer chocolate flavor, more cinnamon for warmth, or extra peanut butter for an even creamier smoothie.
Step 5: Serve + Enjoy
  1. Pour into your favorite glass and enjoy immediately while cold and creamy. Itโ€™s rich, chocolatey, naturally sweet, and perfect for breakfast, post-workout, or an easy afternoon snack.
